Luigi Crema is the director of the Sustainable Energy Center at the Bruno Kessler Foundation in Trento. A physicist, he focuses on issues related to energy transition and the development of technological solutions linked to hydrogen and batteries. He is Vice President of the Italian Hydrogen Association (H2IT) and a board member of Hydrogen Europe Research, part of the European Clean Hydrogen JU partnership. In 2010, he received the Luigi Stringa award dedicated to "Research for Innovation."
For over twenty years, he has been involved in innovation, balancing work in both research and industrial sectors, with extensive experience in transforming development areas into practical solutions and economic value.
Among his main projects and collaborations:
- Coordination of 4 European projects: Digespo, Eden, CH2P, and Switch, in addition to participation in over 40 R&D&I projects in the energy sector, focusing on hydrogen, batteries, solar energy, and materials applied to energy.
- Author of more than 100 scientific contributions.
- Extensive support for European Commission programs, starting with FP7. Co-author of the Clean Hydrogen JU program for Horizon Europe, which he has supported since its inception in 2018, serving as the leader of Technical Committee 1 on hydrogen production.
- Active participation in numerous energy-related initiatives such as EERA, FCH JU, and CTN Energia.
- Support for the creation of spin-offs and start-ups, including Unitec in 2000 and Green Energy Storage in 2015.
- Author of 4 patents (one pending) on various topics, from the use of new materials in energy systems to safety aspects in automotive applications.
- Support to national political institutions on energy issues and involvement in several national and international initiatives.
